First woman chairman
A Dunedin woman, Mrs I. J. Farquhar, recently became the first woman to chair the Seafarer’s Welfare Board, which is responsible for providing care and facilities for seamen visiting and working in New Zealand. ■ The board co-ordinates work for seamen done by national unions and welfare organisations, and also has a representative of the British Seamen’s Union.
