Plenty of races for Mrs Roe
PA Auckland Allison Roe, back in Auckland after her win in the women’s section of last week’s Boston marathon, has been inundated with invitations to run in major road races throughout the United States. She will probably remain in Auckland at least for the next two months before returning to the United States for an attempt on the women’s world records for 15km and the halt-marathon. “There is a big race over the half-marathon distance in Oregon in just over two months and all the top United States women distance runners will be competing,” said Mrs Roe yesterday. Among the invitations she has received are several for big marathons in Stockholm, Montreal, the unofficial world women’s marathon championships in Ottawa, and the New York marathon on October 23. Mrs Roe, who turns 25 at the end of May, hopes to compete in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
