No progress on subsidies
A recent meeting between members of the Christchurch Drainage Board and the Labour member of Parliament ;for Christchurch Central (Mr ■G. W. R. Palmer) has failed do sort out cleare- Government requirements for special works subsidies, the Christchurch Drainage Board has been told. The board wanted to know the criteria under which it could receive subsidies for special works under the Water and Soil Conservation Act. The board's chairman, Mr J. deC. Hanafin, said that. Mr Palmer was not able to offer much assistance. Mr Palmer had suggested that he could put forward a private member's bill on the subject but he was not sure how successful this would be. The board decided to take the matter to the. Minister of Works and Development (Mr W. K. Young).
