Russians stung by attack

NZPA-Reuter Moscow The official Soviet news agency, Tass, countering American allegations, has said that the United States and its intelligence services have spawned, . organised, and-patronised international terrorism. .. Tass. made its charges in a lengthy indictment of alleged United States subversive activity in . Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The length and detail of the Tass editorial indicated that the Soviet Union had been particularly stung by remarks by the American Secretary of State (Mr Alexander Haig) last week that the Soviet Union was promoting international terrorism.. . j . . The Soviet agency said terrorism-as a means of attaining political aims was "deeply alien” to the Soviet Union and the American allegations had been advanced to corroborate “inventions about a ' mythical Soviet threat.” It was on the contrary the Central Intelligence Agency that was the world centre for the organisation of terran Tass said. It accused the United States intelligence organisation of plotting assassinations and ‘ subversion and of sending “terrorist bands” into other countries. /’Among examples of terrorism which it laid at the door of the C.1.A., Tass cited an alleged plot to kill the Cuban leader, Fidel Castro the establishment of the late -Shah of Iran in power, the assassination of the Italian leader, Aldo Moro, in 1978, and the overthrow of Chile’s Marxist President, Salvador Allende. ' It also accused the United States of continuing to train and equip Afghan “criminal bands” — the Kremlin’s description of rebels opposed to the Marxist Government in Kabul. : ; “. s .
