Chch man dies in fall
PA Nelson A Christchurch man was killed in a 100-metre fall down a steep bluff in .the Matakitaki Valley, near Murchison, about 5 p.m. on Sunday. He was Brian William Pratten, aged 45, a fitter and turner. Mr Pratten. and his son, Carl, aged 14, were on a camping-hunting trip in steep country. / Constable T. ing and . fell about 100 metres. Carl clambered down to his father’s aid, returned up the steep bluff, and went for help to the nearest farm. “The rescue party had a lot of praise for the boy. He did all he could for his father, who was still alive but unconscious at that stage, and then blazed the location su it could be easily found again,” said Constable Bowie. A rescue team, accompanied by Dr P. Galloway, of Murchison, reached Mr Pratten about 7.15 p.m., but he was found to be degd. |
