Milestone reached by N.Z. Pacific
The flagship of the Shipping Corporation of New Zealand, the 44,000-tonne' New Zealand Pacific last week reached a milestone by passing the 250.000-mile mark since she came into service in September, 1978. The ship, since entering the New ‘ Zealand-Britain-Europe service, has carried 32,567 containers with 387,434 tonnes of import and export cargo. The New Zealand Pacific is. one of two vessels which this week will help relieve the $44 million backlog of meat exports to Britain and Europe caused by the international strike by British seamen which started on January 14. She will load at Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. The Overseas Container Lines vessel Remuera Bay berthed at Lyttelton yesterday morning to take on containers, many containing export meat, also destined for the Britain-European market but, at this stage, it is not known when she will sail, because she is manned by members of the British National Seamen’s Union who have refused to allow their vessels to sail once they haveberthed kß|vALs - Remuera Bay (6.5 a.m.)» 42,007, Rotterdam (0.C.L.). , • „ Maumee (7.5 a.m.l, 1a,626, McMurdo Sound (Kinsey).
