Shipping News Pacific Fruit has had her troubles
The 4628-ton refrigerated meat carrier, Pacific Fruit, is making a visit to the Port of Lyttelton, but she will not be loading or discharging cargo. Instead, she is in port to make repairs to damage caused in a collision near Singapore about two months ago. The Pacific Fruit is probably best known for her recent, fruitless trip to Iraq, where a cargo of New Zealand meat was rejected by Iraqi authorities. Before arriving at Lyttelton she discharged her cargo of meat at Tirnaru where most of it was declared satisfactory and earmarked for other markets. Built in 1964, the Pacific Fruit has been known before as the Ronirel, the Lily, arid the Brunshoim. The tug Lyttelton I will be making what for her is a long voyage on Easter Day. Instead of her usual Sunday afternoon twohour trip round the harbour, she will venture beyond the heads, around Banks Peninsula and to Akaroa. The voyage will commence at Lyttelton at 10 am. and is expected to last six or seven hours, including a stop for lunch at Akaroa and visits to the bays around the peninsula. ARRIVALS Nil.
