Former girls’ school
Amberley House was the name of a private girls’ boarding school run on the property for 20 years until the 19405. Then it was closed after a scandal and court case involving a gardener. The ground floor of the house on the rise was built in double brick about 1896 and the farm was a much larger unit. The first floor was erected for school dormitories. A second floor added for the school ’ was
removed, along with separate buildings including a gymnasium, which went to St Andrew’s College. More recent uses of the property have included, a jersey dairy farm, thoroughbred horses and a Charolais cattle, stud. Extensive stables now cater for an office and storage of machinery and potting mixes. The surgery for ova transplants has been converted to a workshop and potting room.
