Casinos in N.Z.
Sir, —While sympathising with those who protest about current theatre production, I feel that the even greater evil of casinos may soon be foisted upon us unless voices are raised against it. Attract tourists they may, but let no one be deceived: the main aim is to line the purses of those who promote them. As with all forms of gambling, there will be far more losers than winners and the attitude of' trying to get something for nothing makes for a morally degraded society where “hard work” become dirty words. The Minister of Internal Affairs should be censured for encouraging such attitudes. To suggest siting such a form of entertainment on the shores of our beautiful harbour is the worst possible form of pollution.—Yours, etc., (Mrs) F. G. OXLEY. March 28, 1980.
