Iraq interested in more N.Z. iamb

Iraq is interested in buying from New Zealand about 14,000 tonnes of lamb a year for five years. • Representatives of W. and R. Fletcher (N.Z.), Ltd, a meat processor and exporter, will go to Iraq in about a month to discuss the supply of 7000 tonnes of lamb in the last half of this year. If they secure a contract the lamb will come from this sea-, son’s kill. Fletcher has had contracts with Iraq for the last two years. It has not

been put off by the rejection of two recent shipments of lamb to Iraq but new conditions are likely to be included in any new contracts.

In the year to last September more than 13,000 tonnes of lamb were shipped to Iraq putting it among the top five markets for New Zealand lamb.

Iraq is also interested in buying beef but a spokesman for Fletcher said New Zealand was not in a position to supply the kind of beef required.
