Sir, — Apropos your article (March 21) on the South African play, “Statements.” the. comment that “the plav . . • has never been presented in' Soutn Africa’’ is inaccurate. My wife and i saw the play in 1974 at the Space Theatre in Cape
Town. Fugard himself and Yvonne Bryceland acted. Perhaps this is indicative of other inaccuracies concerning South Africa? — Yours, etc., B. W .FERGUSON. . March 21, 1980. (Mr Tony Hegen, tour manager, for the company staging the play, says that the play might have been performed in South Africa before it was banned, which it definitely is now. He was told by - the Elizabethan Theatre Trust of Australia that it had never been staged in South Africa.)
