President
Mr David Horn, president of the Oxford Agricultural and Pastoral Association this year, farms 273 hectares at “Roseyre” in the Horrelville district, just south of the Eyre River on Wolffs. Road. Mr Horn works an intensive cropping system with the use of side roll irrigation which he established on the 120 hectare homeblock seven years ago. This intensive system of producing wheat, barley, peas, red and white clover, grass seed and lucerne, has considerably increased the profitability of the farm unit. The remaining farmland consists of two lighter land blocks of 57 hectares and 97 hectares respectively. These are used for breeding replacements and for producing fat lambs for the meat trade. At present Mi* Horn has 1500 Corriedale ewes. “Roseyre” has been in the Horn family for 50 vears. David Hom took over the farm from his mother, Mrs R. R. Horn, 10 years ago. Other members of the family who have also been president of the Oxford A. and P. Association are
David Horn’s brother Hugh, who was president in 1978 and Jim, another brother, who was president in 1973. His grandfather, Mr T. Horn, was president in 1916. Mr David Hom will be entering fat stock, grain and seeds in the show this year. His three children, Sarah aged 11, Catherine aged nine and Philippa aged seven, will all be participating in the riding classes. The president of the Oxford A. and P. Association next year will be Mr S. B. Stokes of “Sinai.”
