Gold lowest for week
NZPA-Reuter London The price of gold fell to its lowest level in a week on Wednesday, dropping SUS3B an ounce in Europe. ■ ' It closed in Zurich and London at $502.50 an ounce, compared with $540.50 in London on Tuesday, and $565.50 on Monday. The pound sterling traded firmly at $2.1900 when the British Budget met expectations that it would contain measures to hold down spending, and Government borrowing. | No special factor led to I the sharp fall in the price of ' gold, but investors did exJpect higher European interest • rates, which would encourage more investment in curIrencies.
