No new, concept
The Open Day being held by the Lyttelton Harbour Board on Saturday is no new concept. The port has been “open” to groups seeking conducted tours of its environs, and the years have seen school classes, farming organisations, manufacturing interests and other groups conducted on port tours. “Although the port hills form a natural barrier between Lyttelton Harbour and the province it serves, they in no way lessen the port’s determination to give good service to
Canterbury,” says the Harbour Board Chairman (Mr J. E. Mannering). For more than 100 years the harbour board has recognised its responsibility to administer the port on behalf of residents and electors. As the port becomes increasingly Important to Canterbury it is becoming increasingly interesting to the public, Mr Mannering says. He hopes that many will take advantage of the Open Day opportunity to study the facility at first hand.
