Married couple admit perjury
Nelson reporter Pleading guilty to charges of perjury, three people were committed to the Supreme Court for sentence by Mr K. H. .1. Headifen, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Nelson yesterday. Wayne Robin Kroupa, aged 24, a workman, and his wife, Christine Margaret Kroupa, aged 22, a housewife, admitted that on July 24, 1979, they had committed perjury during the trial of Wayne Kroupa on a charge of. driving while disqualified, by falsely stating on oath that the driver on a particular occasion was Bruce Morgan. Another witness at the trial, Andrew Lewis Isle, aged 17, a bushman of Christchurch, admitted perjury by making a similar false statement on oath. • RAPE CHARGES After hearing submissions
on bail in chambers, the Magistrate remanded Makatu Norman Williams and Frank Griffo Bluegum in custody to March 4 on charges of rape. Williams; aged 21, a factory hand, . and Bluegum, aged 18, a boiler hand, were each charged with rape on February 23. Williams was also charged with assaulting Constable lan Ward Robinson, Constable Kerry James Borrows and Murray Francis Brown on February 23, and Bluegum with assaulting Constable Borrows and obstructing him. Sergeant P. Grouby. who prosecuted, said, the assault charges were unrelated to the alleged rape. Mr J. R. J. Fardell, who appeared for both men, applied for bail but the application was opposed by the police. -
