Man’s name given

The Christchurch police have released the name of a young man who died instantly when his car struck the New Brighton Post Office about 10.15 p.m. on Monday. He was Phillip John Burns, aged 20, of 57 Smith Street, ' Woolston.

The police said that the car, travelling at high speed, had mounted the footpath, crashed through a supporting pillar of the post office, and come to rest in the foyer. Firemen had to use cutting gear to free Mr Burns from the wreckage. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
