$13,000 for mare
PA Dunedin Rose-a-Lay and her coll foal by Beaufort Sea were sold for $13,000 at a mixed sale of thoroughbreds at the Wingatui Racecourse on Saturday. Rose-a-Lay. an eight-year-old mare by Mellay from Rosair, and her foal were bought by Bruce McKay, a Melbourne train;er They were offered by the White Robe Lodge Stud of Brian and Lorraine Anderton, who provided the bulk of the offering. Kose-a-Lay’s first foal, Windrose (bv Beaufort Sea), ran second at Caulfield at her first start then died of a haemorrhage at her next outing. She was trained by McKay, who intends to leave Rose-a-Lay in New Zealand to be mated with Beaufort Sea. Fifteen lots were sold for a total of $40,400 and five lots were passed in.
