Trainers fined

PA Wellington The trainers Errol Skelton and John Harris were fined by the New Zealand Racing Conference on Thursday for breaches of an eligibility rule. Skelton pleaded guilty to two charges in breach of Rule 239 (1) and (2) concerning the horse Random Check. The rule concerns horses racing in events for which they are not eligible. After hearing evidence and some mitigating factors in support of submissions made by Skelton’s counsel (Mr C. Thompson), the committee fined Skelton $5O on each breach.

Harris pleaded guilty by letter to breaches of the same rule relating to Shahrizah being entered and/or started in a number of races between January 10, 1979, and December 15,-1979. The committee convicted Harris and fined him $2OO for breaches against the rule and ordered he pay $lOO towards the. cost of the inquiry.
