Sharivari returned
PA Auckland The leading stallion, Sharivari, which has been the . subject of a court wrangle over ownership was returned .to Alton Lodge Stud, Te Kauwhata, yesterday. Late on Monday the 15-year-old was located grazing on a West Auckland farm, where he has been since early February, under the care of a professional horseman.
He looked very fit and was docile, despite earlier reports that he was vicious and probably in a run-down state.
Yesterday a veterinarian and officials from Dalgety’s Bloodstock inspected the stallion before he made the journey back to Te Kauwhata.
Late last week, Mr Justice Vautier in *-he Auckland Supreme Court ordered the horse to be returned to the proprietor of Alton Lodge Stud, Mr Edward Leonard Haydon. The stallion was
taken from the stud on February 2. The man who has been keeping Sharivari, an Auckland businessman, Mr Pat Wilson, said he had no intention of defying the law. Mr Wilson said he believed in good faith that he was -the legal owner of the horse, following a transaction between himself and a Wellington solicitor Mr Clive Kerr, who acted on behalf of Californian millionaire, Mr Hastings Harcourt. Mr Wilson said that Sharivari had received the best treatment while in his possession and that reports that the stallion had been servicing mares were wrong. He said the matter of the stallion’s ownership is being pursued by his lawyers. The owner of the Alton Lodge stud, Mr Edward Haydon, has returned to his property from Auckland. He said that he would have Sharivari checked by a veterinary surgeon. He was taking steps to tighten security at Alton Lodge.
