Weed control money
The Government has increased its allocation of ■funds for noxious plants control.
Last year, when the Noxious Plants Council announced a reduction in subsidies payable to farmers on weedkillers for control programmes, it was reported that the Government had reduced its allocation .of funds for the current financial year from an expected §9.5 million to $7 million. :
In a letter received at a meeting of the executive of the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers last week, the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Maclntyre) said that partly in recognition of the significantly higher level of noxious plant control activities recently the Government had agreed to provide an additional $1,135,000 in the current financial year. Mr Maclntyre said that while this fell short of what the Noxious Plants Council had sought, he believed that it represented a reasonable compromise.
The letter was referred to the provincial executive for action.
