Cruising club race
' The Banks Peninsula Cruising Club held its week-end race on the Harbour course. A fleet of '26 started and Freedom Machine, a catamaran, sailed by the 'Cook brothers, finished well -ahead of the rest of the fleet •winning both handicap and line honours.
Granny Apple Jed the keelers followed by Chantal. Natural Magic, which was considered a threat, fouled a spinnaker on the first run, made up ground and led the keelers to the top
mark, but rounded the next buov the wrong way and could not‘make up the lost ground. Results were:— First division.—Line honours: Freedom Machine, elapsed time Ih 51min 17s, 1. Handicap: Freedom Machine, 1:47:50, 2; Cavalier 11, 2:20:41, 2; Cavalier, 2:20:28, 3. Second division. — Line honours: Spirit of Perlorous Jack, 2:36:55, 1. Handicap: Valencia, 2:8:13, 1; Spirit of Perlorous Jack, 2:16:49, 2; Pinta, 2:16:59, 3.-
