Leave required to hear Corso

PA Wellington St Patrick’s College schoolboys had to get permission from their parents to attend a talk on Corso today. Teachers yesterday told all forms to check with parents that they were allowed to go to a 10-minute talk by forso representatives at the school assembly’this morning. The college's rector (the Rev. J.' Weir), said he decided to ask parents’ permisskm because Corso had become a contentious political- issue. “The school must try to interpret the minds of

parents, and like it or not Ccrso has entered the political area and become a contentious issue with some people," he said. “It was because of this that I felt the talk should not be compulsory.” This is the first time Father Weir has asked parents’ permission for such a talk during his 2| years as rector. Boys whose parents say they cannot attend the talk will go to normal classes. Boys from all forms have the option of not attending the talk. St Patrick’s College, in Evans Bay, has a role of about 700 boys.
