Mr Ay Bee to join Verner stable
By
PAUL MEIN
Mr Ay Bee has been lost to South Island racing, and will join the Takanini stable of Ray Verner. Lack of racing opportunities in the south, and the trouble and expense of travel in search of starts has necessitated the shift north. One of New Zealand’s top handicappers last season, MiAy Bee won six races from eight starts, including a memorable C.J.C. George Adams and Great Autumn double. He was also successful in the $16,000 Dunedin Gold Cup, The Showoff II gelding was then aimed at rich Australian prizes in Brisbane, culminating in the $BO,OOO Brisbane Cup in which he finished second to Grey Affair, beating the Australian champion, Double Century, into third place.
All told, Mr Ay Bee won 16 races and over $72,000 from the Wingatui stable of Tony Prendergast.
Mr Ay Bee is currently spelling in Waikato, but is due to resume work with Verner in about three weeks. The Auckland Cup in
y January is his main New ® Zealand goal, with perhaps ; the rich Sydney Cup in n April to follow.
