Stopwatch wins well
From G. K. YULE By winning the Globe Tavern Handicap at Nelson on Saturday, Stopwatch showed how unlucky he was earlier in the month, when he failed to get a start in the Sapling Stakes at Ashburton. After racing reasonably handy, he took time to strike top speed in the run home, but over the final stages he gave his rivals no chance and won impressively by a length from Ardross and the outsider, Petali. ft is not often that two-year-olds have raced in open handicaps at Nelson, but

Stopwatch a fine colt by i Timely Knight from Van I Brabant, is raced by Mr and Mrs Ken Rutledge for whom he is trained by Reg .Curtin. Jim Curtin was the successful driver. Lord Derek, another two-year-old, went within half a hea of success in the J. G. Hampton Handicap, but failed V get to Follow Up.
