Line clear today ?

The Main North line is expected to be cleared this morning after a crash, involving two goods trains, closed the line near Parnassus on Saturday. The accident occurred about noon on Saturday, when the brake hose of a south-bound train burst, forcing it to stop. While repairs were under way, another south-bound train rounded a bend in the line and crashed into the guard's van of the front train. The driver and fireman

of the second train suffered minor injuries, and did not require hospital treatment. The guard of the front train had left his van earlier to help with repairs. The two locomotives of the second train were derailed, and the guard’s van of the first train demolished, said a New Zealand Railways spokesman. A few waggons carrying general goods were also derailed. Track gangs have been working continuously to clear the line.
