$300,000 grant to community health
A Government grant of more than $300,000 has been;t made to the North Canter-L bury Hospital Board for E community health projects 6 continued from last year. ; r However, the board has; r not yet been told by the T Government what further r finance will be available for 8 other community health pro- 1 jects which the board applied f for more than four months 1 ago- [ c The continuing projects r are for a co-ordinator of special accommodation for't psychiatric patients ($8500), v a co-ordinator of community C and geriatric services f ($125,000), child development y and family guidance centre t ($70,400, and the alcoholism n assessment centre ($97,000). t
Further projects for which the board seeks Government assistance include a diabetes education centre, a new primary health-care unit, a community health-care programme for Lincoln, a community dental-care programme for persons unable to attend normal dental surgeries, and a co-ordinated transport plan for intellectually handicapped child-1 ren. The board expects notification within the next three weeks on the extent of the; Government’s' community; health vote this year. Last; year, the Government distributed $2.6M on com-1 munity health programmes] throughout New Zealand.
