Westville fit for Hastings

Special correspondent Palmerston North Westville and Silver Strike ran the best gallops at Awapuni yesterday morning in preparation for Hastings tomorrow. Westville took no harm from his race last Saturday. Westville ran his 1200 m in Imin 18s, the last 600 m in 395. He had an interrupted run last week and did well to finish sixth. He was not all that happy in the ground either so he will have to be taken on

trust a little in the Winter Handicap. Thun did a tme trial for the Hawke’s Bav Steeples when he ran 1400 m in imin 41s, the last 600 m in 425. Thun was not disgraced last week and a better effort is expected by his trainer, Erie Temperton, in the big race. The Vicar and Silver Strike ran a dashing 1000 m in Imin 1.65, the last 600 m in 37.65. Silver Strike has improved a lot since being gelded and could cause an upset in the Mahora Handicap at Hastings.
