Heathcote review scheme
Sir, —In September, 1977, before the last local elections, I inquired at the Heathcote council about the review of the district scheme and proposed zonings. I was informed that the council had decided that the matter was strictly confidential. After reading Mrs Marette Taylor’s letter on June 8 I was told at the council’s office that the town planning meeting in August, 1977, of which Mrs Taylor was chairperson, discussed zoning, and resolved that the discussion must remain confidential. In February this year I was able to go to the council’s office and read the proposals of the present council. It had a draft district scheme review on the public counter, and maps of proposals on the wall — all this well before public announcement of the review on May 31. I am also pleased to know that the present council has decided to hold public meetings to discuss the review. I was astounded by Mrs Taylor’s letter on the lack of council effort.— Yours, etc., (Mrs) H. MURCH. June 8, 1978.
