Pregnant pupils

Sir, — Teachers who “hold themselves responsible for pregnant pupils” may be prepared to start a positive movement towards helping parents to cope with this responsibility. The number of parents who respond to school sponsored evenings for mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, with opportunities for individual help, varies. Those who did not attend might be approached personally by a qualified person to discover if nonattendance was caused by: (a) Prior engagement; (t>) quite able to cope; (c) too shy — felt inadequate; (d) not interested or uncooperative. Their reasons could be discussed in a friendly manner and individual needs and beliefs could be taken into consideration where help is needed. After all, we can manage individual dental care for our children. Surely we can help families individually in such an important aspect of our children’s future happiness. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) M. A. STOVE. Arthur’s Pass. June 20, 1978.
