Access to advice

South Pacific Television’s “Access” programme tomorrow looks at the work of a citizens’ advice bureau, and the Addington Railway Workshops Choir.

The first citizens’ advice bureau was established in Ponsonby, Auckland, in 1970. Since then the number has grown to 38, staffed by an estimated 1200 volunteers. A similar number of layers, accountants, and other professional people supply free legal, budgeting and other specialist services.

The choir was established in 1946 as part of a programme to encourage cultural activities within the industrial work force.
