Invasion warning

NZPA-Reuter Salisbury

Britain and the United States, pressing for a peace conference of Rhodesian Government and guerrilla leaders, warned the country’s new multiracial Executive Council last week that they might face an invasion by Cuban forces, the United African National Council has said. The new interim Government is making surprising progress towards ending Rhodesia’s bloody guerrilla war, the party added. The U.A.N.C., led by Bishop Abel Muzorewa, is one of three moderate black groups which has joined the white Prime Minister (Mr lan Smith) in a new executive council pledged to lead Rhodesif to majority rule.

The party issued a statement harshly critical of Anglo-American attempts to organise an all-party conference on Rhodesia’s future.
