Dud: mayhem promise
By
BRUCE WATSON
How does a comedian like Dudley Moore spend his spare time? At 4.30 p.m. yesterday he was watching “Gilligan’s Island” in his room at Noahs Hotel. He was particularly interested in the aesthetic qualities of Tina Louise, an actress in the programme. Dudley explained that he was resting up for an assault on Christchurch last night. He had plans afoot to disturb Noahs Hotel “to the utmost degree.” “I plan to run nude among the local wenches. I could even get around to painting the town green,” he said. Dudley Moore is half of the English comedy team of Peter Cook and DudleyMoore, responsible for the “Not only, but also” television series, a stage tour called “Behind the Fridge” and films including Bedazzled” and "The Wrong Box.” Not only that, but Dudlev is also a iazz pianist and composer. The Dudley Moore
I Trio—Dudley on piano, Pete i Morgan on bass, and Chris Karan on drums—is in Christchurch to give a concert at the James Hay Theatre this evening. I Dudley says he is prepared j to let people sit on the stage I if door sales are heavy. The
trio, which has been together for nine years, will play jazz standards, and some of Dudley’s own composition such as “Horizon,” “Chimes.” and “Corriftel'd." There will be plenty of comedy as well. The trio has played to full houses in Auckland and Wellington. They will fly on Sunday morning to Sydney, where they wil give three concerts. Dudley lives with his wife, Tuesday Weld (nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the film “Looking For Mr Goodbar”) in Los Angeles. He will return to Hollywood from Australia to star in a film called “Dracula Sucks Again.” He also plans to make a “ludicrous assault on the music world.” Last words to Peter Cook: “Like many smallish men (Napoleon, Hitler, to name but two) Dudley has a superficial charm and warmth that deceive many. Underneath lurks a demented sadist, capable in private of unspeakable deeds.”
