Situation: An anticyclone to the east of New Zealand is almost stationary’ and a weak trough of low pressure is moving slowly eastwards across the country; the cold front near Tasmania is expected to move on to the south-west of the South Island late today. Forecasts: Canterbury: Fine, apart from rain about the western ranges, and considerable high cloud elsewhere at times; moderate north-eas-
terlies predominating, but north-westerlies freshening inland; mild in the afternoon. Marlborough, Nelson: Moderate northerly or north-eas-terly winds; mainly fine and mild, but a few showers likely. Buller, Westland: Overcast, with rain at times, but fair intervals developing; mild with moderate, variable winds. Outlook: A south-west change in Canterbury; showers possible in all districts.
