T.T.U. minus strikers

By

DAVID LEGGAT

Trans Tours United might be forced to take the field for its Rothmans Soccer League match against Hamilton at English Park today without two of its regular strikers.

Richard Mulligan is in hospital and definitely will not play while Mark McNaughton must pass a fitness test before being included in the team. In addition, Frank McKay is still very sore and is using antibiotics for an infection. However, the United coach fMr Terry Conley) believes McKay will be fit. Opposing United is a team which is one of the most formidable in the competition. A compel /1 defence, headed by Alex Young and Kevin Fallon, the coach, is more than complemented fey the goal-scor-ing abilities of Keith Nelson and Alf Stamp. “Tve got a lot of respect for teams with goal-scorers like Nelson. He is still the best finisher in New Zealand." said Mr Conley.

Woolston W.M.C. faces an equally difficult assignment when it meets Blockhouse Bay in Auckland tomorrow. Bay has made a much better start to the season than expected and, unusually for it in recent years, it has scored more goals than any other team in the competition. with the exception of Mount Wellington. The Woolston coach (Mr Terry Mann) will be sticking to his 4-3-3 system and will start the match with the same team used last Sunday. The competition leadgr, Mount Wellington, today will play the team which is shaping up as the main danger, Eastern Suburbs. The result should be interesting. Both teams contain skilful players and the outcome could be a pointer to the top half of the points table at the end of the season. Tomorrow an improving North Shore, which locked anything but a relegation candidate last week-end, will meet Wellington Diamond United in Auckland. Nelson United will host

Columbus Waterside and, on current form, should win comfortably. Courier Rangers will travel to Wellington tomorrow to meet Stop .Out and will probably be happy with a point. However, judging Stop Out on its showing last Sunday against Woolston, it would be a hard-earned point.
