Hunt for driver
The Christchurch police mounted a big hunt for the driver of a van last evening after a hit-and-run accident in which a cyclist was killed. He was ARNOLD DAVID BOYCE, aged 47, married, of 10 McLean Street, North Linwood.
Mi Boyce suffered severe multiple injuries when the van and his cycle collided at the intersection of Moorhouse and Fitzgerald avenues about 6.20 p.m. He was hurled on to the footpath by the impact.
The van failed to stop after the accident, and drove off at high speed. Mr Boyce was taken by St John Ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital, but was dead on arrival. Witnesses w'ere able to give the police a description of the hit-and-run vehicle.
It was a Bedford panel van, possibly a J2 model, painted light blue. The van was dirty, and was damaged on the left front side.
Witnesses of the accident, or anyone who might have seen the van, should inform Sergeant J, E. Dwyer, of the Christchurch police.
