Masked man
A masked man, who has appeared naked or dressed in swimming trunks, has been frightening girls on Pines Beach for the last month, according to the Kaiapoi police.
The police have received two reports about the man in the last week, and believe that there may have been many more sightings which have not been reported. Two girls aged 10 reported being accosted by a man whose only vestige of clothing was a black hood over his head. They were unable to give any detailed descrintion to the police however. Last Saturday two nurses were accosted by
the man, who was wearing what were described as “very short shorts.” They said that he had crept up on them in the sandhills and stood a few feet away, staring at them. Then, just as suddenly, he had run away. The nurses were “shocked and frightened,’’ but said that his body was like that of an 18-year-old. A spokesman for the Kaiapoi police said that the man was appearing in an area that was very difficult to police. “He could work from the Waimakariri rivermouth to as far as Woodend Beach,” he said.
The police would like to hear from anyone who has seen the man.
