Unemployment
Sir, — The continual harking back to labour’s record in 1972-75 by C. G. Marshall is not the most brilliant tactic to advance the National Party’s chances in the forthcoming elections, and his reference to promises is particularly inept. In comparison with the disastrous effects of the National Party’s term in office as the government, the direct result of Mr Muldoon’s policies, the accelerated inflation, the aggravated unemployment, the precipitous decline in the workers’ living standards, the Labour Party’s term in 1972-75 begins to assume, more and more, the character of the “good old days”. — Yours, etc., M. CREEL. January 28, 1978.
