Red Devon bull for Canterbury
For the first time in almost 25 years a Red Devon bull will be exported from Britain in March to a New Zealand breeder. it is coming to Mr G. H. Squire’s Squire Leigh herd at Cave in South Canterbury, which has 250 females. He bought his bull at the recent Devon Cattle Breeders’ Society show and sale at Exeter in south-west England. Mr
Squire, who successfully bid 1400 guineas for Essington Buccaneer, which weighed 865 kg (19041 b at two years, had been invited by the society to judge its autumn show. He was the first New Zealander to have received such an invitation. He bought his first bull of the breed from Tasmania in 1959. It was the Royal champion there.
