Magistrate’s Court Heroin taken to prisoner
An inmate of Addington Prison was smuggled heroin hidden in sticking plaster by one of his visitors, the Magistrate’s Court was told yesterday. Ronald Tokoarangi Te Maari, aged 19, pleaded guilty yesterday to a charge of supplying heroin to Sidney Hirini Rehutai, who had been remanded to Addington. Te Maari was convicted and was also remanded in custody until January 10 for sentence by Mr J. S. Bisphan, S.M. A small quantity of heroin, which was allegedly bought for $2O. had been concealed in an elastic dressing on Te Maari’s leg, when he visited Rehutai in prison on December 29, Sergeant R. H. Prouting said. During the visit, the dressing was removed and transfered to Rehutai’s foot. Later, ; t was found behind a heater during a routine search, he said. STAND-IN ‘BOOKIE’ A woman who claimed to
be “standing in for the regular bookie” at the Royal George Hotel was fined $250 on a charge of bookmaking when she appeared in Court yesterday. Marie Lucinsky, aged 49. pleaded guilty to a charge of bookmaking at the hotel on December 17. As well as convicting and fining her, the Magistrate ordered that Lucinsky’s takings be forfeited. The court was told that she had agreed to accept a bet from an undercover detective after she had been seen taking bets. BURGLARY CHARGES Two men who appeared in Court on charges of burgling Boats and Motors, Ltd, on Monday night were both remanded in custody at the request of the police. Bryan Robert McAllister and Hamish Keith McDougall, both aged 23, entered no pleas to the charges and were remanded in custody to January 10.
