Tramper brought out by vehicle
A Christchurch tramper who suffered swollen ankles, possibly from tom ligaments, while on a trip from Nelson National Park to the Waiau River, was brought out to Hanmer Springs yesterday by a four-wheel-drive vehicle, after it had been driven through Malings Pass. He is Thomas Phillip Burgeois, aged 32, of 93 Bassett Street, Burwood, who was one of a party of seven. Mr Burgeois’s brother, Mr J. R. Burgeois, and a companion, Mr R. G. Murie, left the party and
went to the Caroline Hut, where a four-wheel-drive vehicle had been left by the group. They drove to Hanmer Springs to seek permission from Constable P. F. Gilfedder to take the vehicle along the Electricity Department’s road through St James station and over Malings Pass. This was given, and the two men reached their party again at a temporary campsite between Malings Pass and Lake Guyon. They reached Christchurch yesterday afternoon.
