Singapore’s Tiger beer has been rated the best among 18 brands in Australasia by a team of veteran drinkers in a contest conducted by the Asian “Wall Street Journal.” Tiger was described as a “fine all-round brew” by judges. The beers were chilled to the same temperature and served at random in unmarked glasses. Tiger scored 23 points followed, one point behind, by Taiwan’s national beer and Australia’s Carlton. Asahi (Japan) beer scored 21 points. Other ratings were: Foster Lager (Australia), 19 pts; Anker (Malaysia), 17; San Miguel (Hong Kong), 17; Saporo (Japan), 16; Snowflake (China), 16; Swan (Australia). 16; Kirrin (Japan), 14; Tsingtao (China), 12; Bintang (Indonesia). 11; Kingfisher Lager (India), 10; 0.8. (South Korea), 10; Amarit (Thailand), 6; Beer 33 (Vietnam), 6.
