Ronnie Moore forms speedway team
A team of speedway riders — all with overseas experience — has been formed by the former world champion, Ronnie Moore, of Christchurch. The team, which will be known as Ronnie Moore Racing (Inc.), will be run on business lines with prize money, expenses, and technical knowledge being shared.
It is the first time that a team of this nature has been formed in New Zealand. Moore, who will be the nonriding manager, is negotiating with several potential sponsors.
"The details are still being finalised but word gets around pretty quick. We already have several bookings in other parts of the country. However, the team will be based at Templeton and • will ride there most of the season.” The five members are Max Brown, Allan Brown, Roger Wright, Roger Abel, and James Moore. The Brown brothers did not travel overseas this winter. The others have all spent the northern season racing in Britain. Wright is expected back within a fortnight but Abel and James Moore will not
be back for another month because they want to contest the lucrative end-of-season feature meetings in Britain. The team has been allocated five pits at Templeton adjacent to one another. They will all wear distinctive red and white body colours. Moore is in constant demand for training schools throughout New Zealand. He has agreed to conduct five in the North Island next month — at Hastings, Palrne r s t o n North, Martinborough, Wanganui, and Wellington. Unfortunately, it seems as if he will be unable to organise one for ! Christchurch before the season starts in the first I week of November. "I have had dozens ofj •oung riders ask me to or- j ganise something but the time factor seems to rule it | Tut at this stage,” he said. Il
