Czar’s Blood star trialist at Awapuni

Special Correspondent Palmerston North Czar’s Blood took the honours in training at Awapurfi yesterday morning with a fast sprint in preparation for the West Derby Stud Stakes at Otaki. Czar’s Blood was most impressive in running second in his debut at Hastings last week. Awapuni’s other representative in the race is Mr Music and he also took the eye with a smart gallop. Chandos was another to go well. Most of the work took . place on the course proper, the ground being the best for a long time.

Czar’s Blood on the outer was shading Moon Shadow at the end of 600 m in 37s and Czar’s Blood could not have been more impressive. He was a little shin-sore j earlier this week yet hit out r extremely well. He couldwin at Otaki. ,| Mr Music ran his 600 m : with Ban D’Or in 38s. He looked smart at the Foxton I matinee and a good run could come from him at: Otaki.

Chandos and Ngapunawai l worked over 1600 m, Chandos winning by a. length. Ngapunawai was, hampered by a couple of other horses in front of him in the straight. They ran the! 1600 m in tmin 49.55, the last 600 m irr 395. Chandos is very well. Bits and Pieces reeled off 1000 m in I min 5.45, the last GOllm in 37.85. This was the best at the distance. Twain; was impressive running ■ 1000 m with Jutland in Imin 5.45, the last 600 m in 38.65. Sweet lace was timed over 800 m in 545, the last 600 m tn 40s. Alzira ran

800 m in 52.55, the firfal 600 m in 39.25. Kutati was going strongly all the way over 1600 m in Imin 495, the last 600 m in 395. Credit Note was again in good form galloping 1600 m with Sir Desmond. They took Imin 49.65, The last 600 m in 39.65, HONEY TOWER WELL Honey Tower ran an easy 1000 m and is irr fine fettle for a fresh start at Otaki. Aquajet ran 600 m in 39s and hit out well. Secretin took 38.4 s for a similar task. Young Margot, Pitt Meadows and Battle Treaty were well matched over 1000 m in Imin 7.25, the last 600 m in 39.25. Pan Jet covered 800 m strongly in 52.45, the last GOOm in 38.8 s and Exotic left 800 m behind in 535, the last 600 m in 40s.

La Stupendo ran 800 m in 55s and Tom Bowling required 53.55, the last 600 m in 40.25. Bila Bend took 53.4 s for 800 m, the last 600 m in 39.45. Camargue, Laatefos and Westville were in line at the end of 1200 m in Imin 21s, ithe last 600 m in 40.65. They are three very fit maidens for the Temperton stable at Otaki. Camargue, in particular. is very promising.

Zana ran 1600 m in Imin 58«ec, the last GOOm in 40.6 sec. and she worked lazily. She is fresh for the high-weight at Otaki and could cause a surprise.

Herdsman ran 1000 m in Imin Gsec. and Top Duality snrinted GOOm in 37.55ec. ;Trajan completed his preparation for the first leg by i running 1200 m in Imin 21 sec, the last 600 m in 4O.6sec
