Diplomat on Ganges

NZPA-Reuter New Delhi New Zealand’s High Commissioner to India (Dr Colin Aickman) will join Sir Edmund Hillary’s jet boat expedition up the Ganges River for a brief period. The 19-member IndiaNew Zealand joint expedition. which began on September I from the mouth of the Ganges in West Bengal, has reached Garhmukhteshwar, north of New Delhi.

The expedition members will end the journey by climbing the 19,565 ft Anand Parbat peak, glaciers from which are the source of the river. Two more Indians have joined the expedition. They are Commander M. S. Kohli, who led India’s successful expedition to Mount Everest in 1965, and Commander Joginder Singh. Both work for Air India, which has sponsored the “Ocean to the Sky” expedition.
