By 1980, general nurses in the North Canterbury Hospital Board area will be out pf their crisply starche#] aniforms, and wearing. polyester-cotton uniforms] which will be easily laundered and comfortable to wear Although the new fabric | has been decided on, no final decision on style has been made However, it is likely that the new uniform will be based on that widely used byi Australian hospitals, with | some modifications. Samples of the proposed design have yet to be made
i, up. but if they are approved . by the hospital board, nurses will be wearing them within the next two or three years.! f’ It is hoped that samples] ; would be available for the board within the next month. The new uniforms will be i brought in to coincide with! the opening of the board’s! new SSM central linen com-, plex at Sunnyside Hospital ! ’ The new laundry would not | be able to take the old uni-I forms. , General nurses, registered, 'and students, will be the! first to get the new uniforms; psychiatric nurses! twill be next in line.
