Camellia show praised
Camellia blooms of all descriptions and a milling crowd of onlookers filled the Horticultural Hall yesterday, the first day of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Camellia Society’s annual show.
Eight hundred entries, from Timaru to Blenheim, were received.
The branch president (Mr G. L. Nicoll) described the blooms as being of a high standard, in spite of the weather, and making the best show for three years. Public interest was also higher than in previous years, Mr Nicoll said. The champion bloom was entered by Mrs P. Dillon and the reserve champion by Mrs D. Baker, both of Christchurch.
Other award-winning blooms were entered by W. H. McLaren and by J. Simpson and Mrs Simpson, all of Christchurch.
The show will end today.
