T.T.U. nets $5000

With its 3-1 win over Stop Out at English Park yesterday, Trans Tours United won itself $5OOO for third place in the Rothmans National League soccer competition. But it would have taken only one more goal by Hamilton, a 2-0 winner over Mount Wellington yesterday, and the prize money would have gone to the northern side in its first year of top level soccer.
The goal difference between the two sides is .0187 of a goal. Hamilton seemed content to hold a 2-0 lead, costly error, rather than push for a third. A goal by Keith Neiderer after seven minutes capped off a fine team effort involving Ray Veall, Alf Stamp and John Ravenscroft. Keith Nelson scored the second goal with a welltaken header from a Ravenscroft free-kick in the second half.
The Mount failed to finish off its movements in spite of having an equal share of the possession.
Two goals by Richard Mulligan and another by Mark McNaughton gave
T.T.U. its fine 3-1 win over Stop Out. Derek GibsonSmith scored for Stop Out with an excellently-taken diving header. The match contained many niggly fouls and on occasions seemed likely to flare up into a full-scale brawl. In Auckland on Saturday, North Shore beat Eastern Suburbs, 2-1, with goals by Dave Sneddon and Ted Edwards. Ray Mears scored for Suburbs.
Dunedin City requires only one point from its match against Stop Out in Wellington next week-end to remain in the national league. Results:—
North Shore 2 (Dave Sneddon, Ted Edwards), Eastern Suburbs 1 (Ray Mears). Half-time: 1-1. Mount Wellington 0, Hamilton 2 (Keith Neiderer, Keith Nelson). Half-time: 0-1. T.T.U. 3 (Mark McNaughton, Richard Mulligan 2), Stop Out 1 (Derek Gibson-Smith). Half-time:
