Truck firms worried
PA Wellington Road Transport Association officials will meet the Minister of Transport (Mr McLachlan) today to discuss the proposed change in cartage rate schedules on October 1. Truck firms fear that discount cartage rates under the present system may be abolished.
The association director (Mr B. P. Gresham) said yesterday that truck operators opposed the change in cartage rate schedules. Amending legislation before Parliament will give the Secretary for Transport the right to prescribe only a fixed or maximum charge.
