A Roxy resurrected
The Roxy Cinema, complete again with soda fountains, may return to New Brighton.
Masters Theatres, Ltd, hopes to have its cinema in New Brighton running again by Christmas. The theatre will be called the Roxy — resurrecting the pre 1960 s name — and eventually will include on
American-style soda parlour. The manager of Masters Theatres (Mr H. L. Masters)
said the single-level, 300seat theatre would cost $lOO,OOO to build. The company used to run the Lido Cinema, formerly the Roxy, in New Brighton, but this was demolished in 1975.
