Mr McEwan to speak
PA Auckland Mr lan McEwen, the chief executive and secretary of the Mbonee Valley Racing Club, will be the guest speaker at the annual dinner of the Racing Writ ers’ Association in Auckland on Thursday. September 1. A New Zealander, Mr McEwen was a racing journalist for many years until becoming secretary of Ihe Bav of Plenty Racing Club in 1964. He has held his present position since 1969. His club generally is thought to be the most progressive in Australia. Last .year it gave a tenancy to the Trotting Control Board to hold meetings at Moonee Valley. Qantas Airways Ltd is assisting the racing writers to bring Mr McEwen to New Zealand. There are four nominees for the Personality of the Year Award. They are the amateur rider and trainer, Mr K. S. Browne, the apprentice jockey, C. P. McNab, the trotting trainer G B. Noble and the veteran jockey D. J. Wyatt.
